Title: Predictions of the public agenda from television coverage Vorhersage vongesellschaftsrelevanten Themen durch Fernsehnachrichtenauswertung
In: Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, 1994
Summary:Presents an ideodynamic model for predicting the effects of Germantelevision news on the public agenda. The model's fundamental assumptions, whichare essential in calculating the media share of any public issue (e.g., defense, energy, and health care issues), are described. Granger and utility regressionsfor the effect of the media share on the public agenda for 1986 demonstrate themodel's good fit. These methods are described as accurate, albeit complex toolsfor predicting the public agenda when no direct measures of public agenda areavailable. The television news structure and public agenda for 1986 arediscussed in terms of the Chernobyl accident in the Soviet Union, health issues, and the magnitudes of persuasibility constants. D.M. - ZPID
